Where it doesn’t suit

The wide-but-short board is a genuine compromise and worth understanding rather than defaulting to. You keep most of the wide-plank look, and the shorter length is far more tolerant of a subfloor that is flat but not perfect — which describes most Sydney houses. What you give up is the uninterrupted run down a long hallway, where the extra end joins are visible. If your floor is one long corridor, look at Cascade; if it is rooms, this is the easier floor to get right.
