Elk Falls Hickory

American hickory at 189 x 14mm with a 2mm solid hickory wear layer, on a Unilin click so it floats without adhesive. Janka 9.5kN — the second hardest floor we stock and nearly twice the hardness of European oak. AA/B/C/D rustic grade, so knots, patched splits and strong colour variation are the point rather than a flaw.

Where it doesn’t suit

The click joint and the hardness make this the most practical real-timber floor here: it goes down fast, it survives a busy family, and it can be lifted if something goes wrong. The 2mm wear layer is the trade — that is one careful sand, not three, so treat it as a floor with a long single life rather than one you renew repeatedly. And be sure you actually want a rustic grade; the variation is dramatic and people who wanted a calm even floor are disappointed by it.
