Where it doesn’t suit
Parquetry is a different job from plank, and the short version is that most of the cost is in the laying rather than the boards. It is direct fix only — it cannot be floated — so the subfloor has to be flat, dry and properly prepared, and that preparation is real money that some quotes bury. Budget for a considerably higher install cost than a plank floor of the same area, get the setting-out agreed before anyone starts, and it will outlast the room. Rush the subfloor and you will see every fault in it.
