Hydromate
The wide, short board of the two — 238mm across and a little over 1.5m long, which suits a normal-sized Sydney living room better than a 1.8m plank does. Twelve millimetres thick with a 4-sided micro bevel, so each board reads as its own plank rather than melting into the next one. Six décors, and they run cooler and more oak-led than the Plus range.

Where it doesn’t suit
AC4 and 48 hours is a domestic floor, and we would keep it that way. It is rated for heavy household traffic and will handle a hallway or a family living area for years, but if you are flooring a shop, a café or an office corridor, step up to the Plus — commercial traffic is what AC5 exists for. The 48-hour figure is also about spills you find later, not water that sits: no laminate is a wet-area floor, and for a bathroom or laundry we will point you at hybrid or vinyl instead. One practical note — at 238mm wide, this is a board that shows a wavy subfloor more readily than a narrow one, so the levelling has to be right underneath it.
